Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko: I’ve Recovered From Coronavirus
“I apologize for my voice, I have had to talk a lot lately. But the most surprising thing is that today you are seeing a person who recovered from coronavirus,” said Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on Tuesday, 28 July.

The president explained that he had coronavirus without knowing about it as he showed no symptoms.

“Doctors made such a conclusion yesterday. It was an asymptomatic case. Well, as I have said earlier, 97% of the Belarusians who contract the virus recover without showing any symptoms of it. Thank God, I got into this group of asymptomatic people,” he said.

Recall that when first cases of coronavirus were registered in Belarus, the president dismissed coronavirus as mass “psychosis” and recommended to treat it with banya, vodka and working on tractors in villages.

“Despite some criticism on my part, I call this coronavirus nothing other than a psychosis. (…) Coronavirus is yet another psychosis, which will benefit some people and will harm others. (…) Why am I behaving this way? Because I am absolutely convinced that panic can hurt us more than the virus itself,” he said then.

On 2 May, the president’s press secretary Natalya Eismont said that Alexander Lukashenko sees no need in being tested for the novel coronavirus because he is feeling well.

“I know that the president has not been tested for the coronavirus infection. There is no need in that. The president is living outside the city and keeps healthy lifestyles. He has a strong immunity and feels well. So, there is no point in conducting tests,” she said.

The president had a very busy schedule for the past month. He met with proxies, representatives of different regions, visited Kupalye in Alexandria and the Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, and traveled to Russia. There were no reports whether he was under quarantine.

Also, neither the president, nor his entourage never wore masks in public.
