Hrodna Regional Council Chairman Arrested by Security Agencies?

Arkadz Karputs, the chairman of the Hrodna Regional Council of Deputies, was arrested on Lenin Square near his office in Hrodna during the lunch time on April 8, reports Blog Hrodna S13.

The arrest warrant was signed by Belarus' Prosecutor General Ryhor Vasilevich who removed immunity from the local council lawmaker.

The Hrodna Regional Council told the European Radio for Belarus that Karputs was not available and it was unclear when he was going to show up back in the office. The official confirmed he heard the rumors about the arrest but refused to comment on this situation.

Karputs was elected as the chairman of the Hrodna Regional Council four terms in a row. Almost during every polls, he was elected unanimously.
