Four People Die of Hypothermia in Belarus in Two Days

Four people died of hypothermia and 36 were hospitalized with frostbite in Belarus on December 15 and 16.

Eleven people were taken to the Minsk-based National Burn Center to receive treatment for frostbite on Wednesday, with two of them diagnosed as having hypothermia.

A representative of the center told BelaPAN that most of the patients had been drunk during exposure to freezing cold.

Temperatures plunged below minus 15 degrees Celsius in many parts of Belarus on December 15 and the cold snap is forecast to last until at least the end of this week.
