Belarusian anti-nuclear campaign coordinator of Tatiana Novikova and Russian nuclear physicist Andrei Ozharovsky were detained on July 18 in Minsk.

They were going to pass to the Russian Embassy in Minsk the open appeal against the signing of general contract for the construction of nuclear power plant, which is scheduled today on the visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

According to BelaPAN, an sms that detainees are in the police department of Leninsky district of Minsk was received by the NGO "Eco House" chairman Irina Sukhiy.

After this, Irina Sukhiy went to the Russian embassy to pass the original petition against the construction of nuclear power plant in Belarus. Coordinator of Monitoring Group of the Centre for Legal Transformation Michael Mackiewicz went to the police department of Leninsky district, where the detainees Novikov and Ozharovsky are being possible held. However Sukhiy and Mackiewicz were detained by unknown at the exit from the Association "Green Network" office.
