Belarus' army may recruit people with scoliosis, hypertension, and ulcer


The list of illnesses, which can be grounds for those liable for a military service to be unfit for a military duty, has been shortened. Those liable are people registered in military commissariats, who have no rights for other types of draft deferments except deferments because of an illness.

According Viktar Vyatchynkin, a doctor and the expert of the military commissariat of Minsk, the written above is stipulated by the order of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus № 33/85 that came into effect on 1 August 2012.

Belarus' army may recruit both hypertensive and those suffering from scoliosis of the second level - with a deflection angle of 10 degrees in the supine position. There are no contraindications for people with ulcer disease, except the cases where there is no perforation and bleeding and exacerbations occur no more frequently than once a year and do not require long-term treatment. Such recruits are liable to be a member of tank units, of crews of combat vehicles, launchers protecting the Armed Forces, of military units of radiation, chemical and biological protection, of anti-aircraft missile and others.

According to Mr. Vyatchynkin, recruits with these disabilities cannot meet their military obligations in units of special operations forces, special troops of the Interior Ministry, of the KGB, of the Border Guard Military Service.
