In Warsaws Castle Square picketers expressed solidarity with the Belarusian political prisoners installing a cage representing the prison.

Some action participants, including imprisoned ex-presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevichs wife Maryna Adamovich, were standing behind the improvised bars holding portraits of the politicals.

The action was coincided with the second anniversary of the crackdown of the peaceful demonstration after the presidential elections on December 19, 2010. Everyone interested stood the chance of writing a postcard to a political prisoner; the picketers also appealed to passers-by to sign the petition to the EU countries governments calling to contribute to the release of the prisoners of conscience.

According to human rights defenders, 12 political prisoners and wrongfully convicted opposition activists are kept in Belarusian jails now.

"The regime believes it will be able to break them down and, at the same time, to break our will to victory, to free life. It will not work out. But the political prisoners need your support very much. Please, help them and sign the petition," Maryna Adamovich said.

The picket was organised by Amnesty International, European Belarus and Polish MEP Marek Migalskis Office that is launching solidarity campaign Wolność x 2.
