A 19-year-old conscript soldier accidentally shot himself dead in a military unit in Minsk on Thursday.
In the accident, which was due to the careless handling of a firearm, the resident of Minsk suffered an injury "incompatible with life" and was pronounced dead at the scene, Alyaksandr Herasimaw, spokesperson for the Minsk city office of the Investigative Committee, told BelaPAN.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted in connection with the accident, he said.
According to web portal tut.by, the soldier shot himself in the head after returning from a training ground. His commanders had failed to ensure that his weapon was not loaded.
