A court in Minsk has sentenced two independent Belarusian journalists to three days in jail.

Alyaksandr Yarashevich and Henadz Barbarych were arrested on April 26 after they covered an annual Chornobyl Path march in Minsk that commemorates victims of Ukraine's 1986 nuclear-plant disaster.

On April 29, the two journalists were found guilty of refusal to follow police instructions.

Both journalists were released because three days had passed since their arrest.

Barbarych told RFE/RL on April 30 that he and his colleague plan to appeal their sentences.

The march had been approved by city authorities.

Four opposition activists who took part in the march and were arrested were found guilty of hooliganism and disobeying police orders and sentenced to jail terms between five and 10 days.
