Member of central election commission stabbed to death at her home

Svyatlana Khinevich, a new member of the central election commission, was found dead with stab wounds in her home on Sunday, the commission’ secretary, Mikalay Lazavik, told news website gazetaby.com, BelaPAN said.

The body of the 54-year-old woman body was discovered in the apartment by her son, he said.

According to Mr. Lazavik, he tried to find out more about the case from the investigative team but was told that the disclosure of additional information would be inexpedient.

In an official statement, which was issued on Thursday, four days after the incident, the central election commission says, without elaborating, that Ms. Khinevich tragically died on Sunday.

Svyatlana Khinevich was born in Minsk in 1959 and graduated from Belarusian State University.

She served as head of the personnel management and ideology office at the presidential property management department’s Main Economic Directorate and was elected a member of the central election commission by secret ballot by the Council of the Republic on December 21, 2011. For 19 months, she doubled as a member of the commission and head of the personnel management department of RUP Minsk Kryshtal (Belarus' largest distillery).
