After a third victory in a row on 17 February at the Olympics Belarus’ biathlete Darya Domracheva has joined the elite club of the sportswomen who won three of more gold medals at the same Olympics, BelTA has learnt.

Apart from the best biathlete of Belarus four more sportswomen boast such a record. They are Russia’s Lidia Skoblikova (four gold medals in speed skating at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck), Finland’s Marja-Liisa Kirvesniemi (three, skiing, Sarajevo 1984), Yvonne van Gennip of the Netherlands (three, speed skating, Calgary 1988 Olympics) and Croatia’s Janica Kostelic (three, alpine skiing, 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics).

There were other athletes who won three or more gold medals at the Olympics before Darya Domracheva. They are gymnast Vitaly Shcherbo (six gold medals), fencers Yelena Belova and Viktor Sidyak and gymnast Olga Korbut (four gold medals each), wrestler Alexander Medved, fencer Tatiana Samusenko and rower Vladimir Parfenovich (three gold medals apiece).
