KGB building bomber sentenced in Belarus

A woman has been sentenced to 4 1/2 years in jail for her involvement in the bombing of the regional KGB headquarters in the eastern Belarusian city of Vitsebsk.

Belarusian state television reported on April 8 that the woman, who is a motocross champion and whose name was not made public, had confessed to making an explosive device that was used in the bombing of the KGB building in November 2012.

The explosive device that detonated in front of the KGB headquarters shattered windows but caused no injuries.

The two bombers of the subway in the Belarusian capital, Minsk, in 2011, Uladzislau Kavalyou and Dzmitry Kanavalau, were also from Vitsebsk.

Both were sentenced to death for the attack, which killed at least 15 people, and were executed in March 2012.
