Belarus attaches great importance to the expansion of cooperation with South Africa, Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey said Tuesday in Minsk during delegation-level talks with Maite Emily Nkoana-Mashabane, South Africa`s minister of international relations and cooperation.

"We believe that South Africa is a very important partner for Belarus because it is the largest economy in the African continent," Mr. Makey said.

Good ties have already been established between Belarus and South Africa, he noted. "Contacts at all levels are very important for us and your visit is very important as we can discuss the current state of our relations and our plans for cooperation," Mr. Makey said.

According to Ms. Nkoana-Mashabane, it was a great honor for her to visit Belarus. She expressed gratitude to Belarus for the warm reception and said that South Africa attached great importance to the expansion of cooperation with Belarus in all areas, including agriculture and food security.

Ms. Nkoana-Mashabane also noted that the two countries regularly exchanged visits at various levels.
